The Vero Beach Choral Society is an auditioned choir whose members are able to read music and have some choral experience. Choristers pay modest dues on an annual basis. The dues help to offset the cost of music and instrumentalists for performances. Rehearsals start in August for the Holiday performance and again in January for the Spring concert. Auditions are held at First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, 520 Royal Palm Boulevard, by appointment.
The audition requires all singers to sing a one-octave chromatic scale up and down on either solfege, numbers, or neutral syllables.
The VBCS always welcomes new members, and scholarships are available!
Recent major concerts have included works as diverse as Gabriel Faure’s Requiem, Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit pour Noel, Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, and John Rutter’s Magnificat. These large works are supplemented by shorter choral motets, anthems, spirituals, and folk song arrangements which lend a great deal of interest and variety to the society’s programs. In addition to singing acapella works, the Society is often accompanied by a variety of instruments, from piano or organ to strings and/or wind ensembles.
