Why are music scholarships important.
Music enhances our senses and imagination, bringing joy to our overall environment. Through the centuries music has helped capture the spirit and essence of great moments. Encouraging the future generation of music talent is essential to preserving this tradition.
Even in good economic times earning a living after getting a music degree is not easy. Scholarships can help to reduce the burden of student loans which must be carried after graduation.
The Vero Beach Choral Society began a Scholarship Endowment Fund in 1997 to assist seniors graduating from Indian River County high schools who plan to major in music on the college/university level. This $ 4,000 scholarship is divided into $1,000 per year installments and awarded with the provision that the student remains in good standing as a music major.
An indispensable aspect of the Choral Society’s outreach is its ability through community donations to provide this financial assistance each year for one or more qualified talented musicians as they leave high schools for colleges of their choice.
Along with auditions to ensure the musical standard of vocal or instrumental applicants is without exception, candidates are interviewed to explore their personalities, financial need, and their dedication to a career in music performance or allied arts.
If you appreciate, as we do, the value of assisting these talented young musicians to further their education, please consider a donation to the fund that is specifically set up for these students.
